Michael Fleming
Born and raised in Carrcroft in the heart of Brandywine Hundred, Michael Fleming, 40, is the youngest of seven children. He attended Old Mill Lane Elementary School, Immaculate Heart of Mary and Salesianum School. He is a graduate of the University of Delaware and received a degree in foreign policy and economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. From 1990 to 1996, Fleming served on the staff of the late United States Senator William V. Roth, Jr., first as a legislative assistant to the US Senate Committee on Government Affairs in Washington, DC, then later as director of the Senator's Wilmington state office.
For the past ten years, he has held executive management positions with leading global healthcare companies including DuPont Pharmaceuticals and GlaxoSmithKline. His responsibilities have included developing product launch strategies, creating new programs to educate and benefit patients and coordinating his company's planning and communications regarding the threat of a possible global influenza pandemic.
Fleming and his wife Christy have three children and live in the Stonewold neighborhood off Lancaster Pike where they have been active in the community. Among other involvements, he has served on the boards of the University of Delaware Alumni Association, Bayard House and West End Neighborhood House. Christy is currently chair of the Christmas Shop Foundation. Fleming enjoys volunteering his time as a youth soccer and basketball coach along with teaching Sunday School at St. Joseph on the Brandywine church. He is an active athlete and competitive tennis player and recently completed his first triathlon (a short one!).
Fleming and others recently formed ReGRO - Republicans for Government Reform and Openness - to advocate ethics reform in state government.
